Pyrenees Shire Mayor David Clark,
welcomed eleven seniors to the Avoca Information Centre on Wednesday the 7th July for the launching of
"Broadband for Seniors".
The program has been funded by the Australian Government under the "Broadband for Seniors" initiative,
which aims to support seniors in gaining confidence and building skills in using new technology.
The program is already available in Beaufort and with its recent launch in Avoca the service will provide free internet kiosks and training for the community’s senior citizens.
Volunteers will be available on certain days to guide seniors through the training sessions and the computers will be available for all seniors to use at their leisure during opening hours- 9am to 5pm, seven days a week as the library has extended its hours of operation as from July 1st.
Volunteer, Geoff Loosmore introduces Clem Britton to the computer while these inquisitve onlookers (below)listen in.
Cr Clark was pleased to be able to launch the program and commented that the computers are state of the art and fitted with eye ball cameras. He added " they can be daunting if you have never used them before but can also be alot of fun"
He said the Pyrenees Shire was committed to maintaining a high level of service to its community, and the recent improvements to the Avoca Information Centre are just some of
the many enhancements currently underway.
