Pyrenees Historic Vehicles Club dives in to help fund access for a Friend of the Avoca Pool

When the committee of the Pyrenees Historic Vehicle Club (PHVC) discovered that the Avoca Friends of the Pool (FoP) members had established a GoFundMe page to raise funds to purchase a Pool Lift to be installed into the 25metre pool, they were quick to contact Belinda Costigan, President of Avoca FoP.

Belinda explained that the committee had been approached by a community member to investigate the possibility of a Pool Lift to enable a young resident to continue enjoying access to the pool. Until this year, the young person had been able to utilize the pool for their mental and physical health, exercise and social activities with friends, but is now unable to access the pool safely. The committee quickly realized that there may be other community members such as the elderly, rehabilitation participants and physically challenged residents who would benefit from the Pool Lift so they set up the GoFundMe page immediately.

President of PHVC, Steve Donaldson commented that the club is keen to support local community projects and has done so over the last few years. “Covid restricted our club activities and the members wanted to help put back into the district so decided to make donations to projects such as Riding for the Disabled, SES, the restoration of the of the Avoca War Memorial, Bowel Cancer Research, Royal Children’s Hospital and One Humanity Shower Bus.”

“We are delighted to be able to hand over a cheque for $500 to the FoP committee” added Steve, “and we look forward to seeing the Pool Lift in action very soon. We congratulate the committee for their fundraising efforts to improve facilities for all sectors of the community”.
