Maryborough's 2016 Relay for Life was a great success with the 30 teams raising nearly $34,000 for Cancer Council Victoria in the 18 hour event.
This was the 7th year that the event had been held in Maryborough and organisers were thrilled with how well the event was managed by the dedicated team of volunteers.
The team that raised the highest total in 2016 was once again the Avoca Mob who raised just over $8,000. This passionate 'Mob' have been participating since day one and this year their total tally for the 7 years reached the $50,000 mark.
During the event the members of the team celebrated with the cutting of a special cake and also took time to remember a very special member of the 'Mob', Fred Staton who sadly passed away earlier in the year. Fred was one of the original members of the group when it was established 7 years ago and was the driving force behind the group for many years. This year's event was a special occasion for Fred's family and all members of the 'Mob'.
The group is unsure if it will be able to continue to enter a team in next year's Maryborough Relay for Life ( Friday March 31st to Saturday 1st April 2017) due to dwindling numbers and lack of President so if there is someone out there who would like to help out, the group would be keen to hear from you.
