Congratulations to all involved with organising and conducting the variety of festivities during the Pyrenees Unearthed Festival that was held over the ANZAC Day long weekend.
With perfect autumn conditions over the 3 days, Avoca was certainly ‘On Show’ and the many thousands of visitors to the region had the opportunity to ‘Unearth the Pyrenees’ .
The Inaugural Avoca Art Show & Sale kicked off the weekend on the Saturday with its excellent array of artwork created by artists from near and far. The 223 entries provided something for everyone and the committee was delighted to sell over 20 pieces of artwork. The Gala Art Award Ceremony on Saturday night attracted over 70 attendees and the Sunday saw an influx of visitors enjoying the talents of local and neighboring / regional artists.
The Avoca Wine Festival and Riverside Market took over Dundas St and the Cambridge St walkway with 60 plus stalls and food and wine marquees scattered along the banks of the river. Activities for the kids, wine tasting, plenty of food options and lots of bargains...all made for a spectacular festival for all.
The Dawn and Wreath Laying Services were both well attended and enabled young and old to reflect on the sacrifices made by those who have served our country.
The weekend concluded with the Bonfire Bash on Sunday night and ANZAC Day Races at the Avoca Racecourse on Monday.
With perfect weather and a large number of visitors to the town, the weekend festival has been a huge success for all the organisations involved as well as the wineries, main street traders and accommodation houses. There have been many positive comments from the businesses and general public so no doubt the organisers have begun evaluating the success of the festival and are planning for a bigger and better event in 2017.
