Avoca Streetscape Update
Pyrenees Shire Council is carrying out investigative work to locate under road services in Avoca’s High Street in preparation for starting streetscape improvements.
This investigation will inform the detailed design of the Avoca Streetscape Plan and provide a roadmap for any future works in High Street.
Council adopted the Avoca Streetscape Plan in February 2020, which first went on exhibition in May 2019.
The Avoca Streetscape Plan aims to improve the town’s amenity for visitors and locals alike by delivering a series of upgrades to High Street.
“These upgrades will provide for further activation and revitalisation of the town centre,” Council CEO Jim Nolan said.
“Other intended outcomes of the plan include improving amenity, slowing traffic and encouraging further visitation and expenditure within the town,” he said.
Council received a number of formal and informal submissions from members of the Avoca community following the Plan being exhibited last year, including business and property owners within High Street. A number of the submissions received raised concerns around the location, species and number of individual trees proposed and was used to inform a series of changes in the final Plan. Throughout the development of the Plan, specific consideration has been given to parking and property access which has resulted in 21 additional carparks being created.
Council Officers remain committed to working with the community to identify and mitigate any unintended impacts or concerns that may result from the proposed tree planning.
Details around tree planting locations and other elements of the Plan can be viewed on Council’s website. Questions, concerns and queries can be forwarded to firstname.lastname@example.org or by calling 1300 797 363.
