Thanks to Paul from Queensland we now have more details about Albert How Qua. We posted earlier in the year that we believed him to be a prominent member of Avoca's historical past.
Avoca Mail reported on Saturday 5 June 1869 (page 2) that a Mr How Qua, a Chinese interpreter, opened a new hotel in Percydale on 31st May 1869, called the Grantsvale Hotel. It stated that 150 people had attended the free supper provided, “including Europeans and Chinese….separate tables were provided for the Mongolians”.
