Advance Avoca Inc (AAInc) was delighted to be involved with restoration work on the Avoca Soldiers' Memorial which involved applying for State Government funding, liaising with the RSL Sub Branch and the Pyrenees Shire.
A Centenary of Respect
The building of the memorial in 1921 was originally funded by the community and AAInc was supportive of raising extra funds from the present day community to ensure that the restoration work was completed in time for the Centenary Celebrations and that a commemorative plaque was designed and installed to recognise this significant date in the town's history.
AAInc was pleased to be part of the ceremony on Thursday 18th November and it was great to see Avoca Primary School students present with the school captains, Aidan Blair and Chelsea Ross, assisting Marg Pilgrim (AAInc) and Ian Urquhart (RSL President) with the unveiling of the plaque.
