Whilst the Pyrenees is now a well-known winemaking region, it was not always so. The self-belief and persistence of a Yorkshire pioneer who came to Australia in search of gold in the 1850’s. He eventually settled near Avoca. Persistence and passion were followed by frustration and disappointment. A new breed of vigneron came to the region and laid the foundations for the modern era of winemaking near Avoca.
